- É necessario conoscere i principali sviluppi della storia dell’arte medievale dalla fine del mondo antico alle soglie dell’età moderna. Si richiede, inoltre, una buona padronanza delle lingue straniere perché parte della bibliografia dell’esame sarà in francese e in inglese.
Students are required to have some knowledge of the main developments of the history of medieval art from the end of the Ancient world to the beginning of the Modern Age. They should also have a good working knowledge of foreign languages because part of the bibliography for the exam will be in French and in English.

Obiettivi formativi
Gli argomenti trattati, nonché le competenze e le abilità che si intendono fornire, sono parte essenziale del percorso formativo finalizzato a offrire un approfondimento specifico nell’ambito delle discipline storico-artistiche. In particolare l’insegnamento offre conoscenze e capacità di analisi relative allo sviluppo della storia dell’arte nel tardo Medioevo.
The topics covered during the course and the range of competences and abilities it intendes to provide are essential parts of the teaching programme, aimed at offering a detailed study in the context of the History of Art. Teaching will focus on knowledge and analytical skills in connection with the development of the History of Art in the late medieval period.

Al termine dell’insegnamento lo/la studente dovrà:
- conoscere i centri di produzione, gli artisti, le botteghe e i committenti del periodo e delle aree geografiche considerati;
- riconoscere le opere e saperle analizzare stilisticamente e iconograficamente;
- comprendere i principali problemi metodologi relativi all’argomento specifico dell’insegnamento;
- padroneggiare i temi propri alla geografia artistica;
- sapere analizzare criticamente fonti e documenti.
At the end of the course students are required to:
- Show a good knowledge of the centres of production, the artists, workshops and patrons of the period and the geographical areas studied;
- Be able to identify the works of art and analyse their style and iconography;
- Understand the main methodological issues in connection with the specific subject area;
- Master specific aspects of artistic geography;
- Provide critical analysis of sources and documents.

Modalità di insegnamento
Lezioni della durata di 36 ore complessive (6 CFU), che si svolgono in aula con l’ausilio di
proiezioni. Sono previste lezioni e visite didattiche al Museo Civico d’Arte Antica di Torino, anche con i curatori della mostra Il Rinascimento europeo di Antoine de Lonhy e con gli autori del suo catalogo.Fatto salvo quanto indicato nel campo note, in merito a un eventuale protrarsi della situazione emergenziale, alle studentesse e agli studenti che non potranno frequentare le lezioni in presenza sarà assicurata la possibilità di fruire delle lezioni in diretta streaming con deposito, nella piattaforma Moodle, del solo materiale didattico e non dei files audio/video delle lezioni.

Lectures, totalling 36 hours (6 CFU), will be held in classrooms and will feature the use of projected images. There will be lessons and visits to the Museo Civico d’Arte Antica in Turin, also with the curators of the exhibition Il Rinascimento europeo di Antoine de Lonhy and the authors of the catalogue.
Except for what is stated in the notes section, with regard to the possible ongoing emergency situation, the students who are not able to attend face-to-face lectures may access live-streamed lectures, and teaching material on the Moodle platform, but not the audio/video recordings of the lectures.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
La verifica dei risultati di apprendimento avverrà tramite un colloquio orale con domande, che potranno avvalersi di immagini e che accerteranno l’acquisizione delle conoscenze storiche, stilistiche, critiche e metodologiche relative agli argomenti sviscerati a lezione. La votazione sarà espressa in trentesimi. Gli/le studenti interessati potranno sostituire o affiancare l’esame orale con una relazione scritta su uno dei temi trattati o toccati durante il corso.
Learning will be assessed through an oral examination. Questions can make use of images and are aimed at ascertaining the student's knowledge of history, style, critique and methodology in connection with the topics studied in the course. A 30-point scale for grading will be used. Those students who are interested can substitute or supplement the oral exam with a written essay on one of the themes dealt with or mentioned during the course.

Antoine de Lonhy e la cultura figurativa tra Borgogna, Linguadoca, Catalogna e ducato di Savoia
In concomitanza con la mostra Il Rinascimento europeo di Antoine de Lonhy (Susa, Museo diocesano, 10 luglio-10 ottobre 2021; Torino, Palazzo Madama, 23 settembre 2021-9 gennaio 2022), il corso intende ripercorrere l’iter artistico del pittore Antoine de Lonhy, dalla sua formazione nel ducato di Borgogna negli anni Quaranta del XV secolo, ai suoi spostamenti a Tolosa e Barcellona, fino al suo approdo nel 1461 nel ducato di Savoia, dove concluderà la sua brillante carriera. Si cercherà di ricostruire il retroterra culturale di de Lonhy (in particolare i suoi rapporti con la cultura figurativa parigina del secondo quarto del XV secolo, e i suoi debiti nei confronti delle invenzioni stilistiche e iconografiche dell’arte fiamminga); i rapporti di dare e avere con la pittura del Midi della Francia e del regno di Aragona; infine, l’impatto del suo linguaggio sugli artisti operanti nel ducato sabaudo nella seconda metà del XV secolo. Si ricostruirà il contesto in cui si trovò a lavorare Antoine de Lonhy e i suoi contatti con alcuni dei committenti più importanti del tempo: dal cancelliere del ducato di Borgogna Nicolas Rolin, al vescovo di Tolosa Bernard de Rosier, alla duchessa di Savoia, Iolanda di Francia.
Antoine de Lonhy and the figurative culture in the Duchy of Burgundy, Languedoc, Catalonia and Duchy of Savoy
In concomitance with the exhibition Il Rinascimento europeo di Antoine de Lonhy (Susa, Museo diocesano, 10 July-10 October 2021; Turin, Palazzo Madama, 23 September 2021 – 9 January 2022), the course aims to study the artistic career of the painter Antoine de Lonhy, from his training in the Duchy of Burgundy in the 1440s, to his periods in Toulouse and Barcelona, up to his arrival in the Duchy of Savoy in 1461, where he concluded his brilliant career. It will attempt to reconstruct de Lonhy’s cultural background (in particular, his relationship with the figurative culture of Paris in the second quarter of the 15th century and his debt to the stylistic and iconographical inventions of Flemish art); his relationship of give and take with the painting of the French Midi and the Kingdom of Aragon; and finally, the impact of his language on the artists working in the Duchy of Savoy in the second half of the 15th century. It will study the context in which Antoine de Lonhy worked and his contacts with some of the most important patrons of the time: from the chancellor of the Duchy of Burgundy Nicolas Rolin to the bishop of Toulouse Bernard de Rosier, and the duchess of Savoy, Yolande of Valois.
